Caribbean Winter North Star Wish
As the Christmas Season comes to an end and the full swing of the winter season is here, we continue our Caribbean Christmas Cheer but as one festival (Christmas) comes to an end, we now bring to you the Caribbean Winter North Star Wish to help us through this cold dark period. See below how the Caribbean Christmas Cheer originally began...
Caribbean Christmas Cheer
Introduction - History where it all started.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, I moved to London from the Caribbean a little over 2 years ago. T&T is a beautiful country where you are guaranteed a smile. It’s completely normal to greet strangers with a nod and a wave as you walk down the street. This does not happen much in London, but my habit remains. I have found that when I do talk to strangers in London and say hello or smile, other people are usually very welcoming.
Last week, I was on the Tube and there was a lady wearing a rose shaped brooch. I started speaking to her and asked if there was a story behind the brooch. We chatted and she told me that in all her years of commuting on the Tube, no one had ever approached her in this friendly way. She was pleasantly surprised.
Imagine if London became as friendly and welcoming as Trinidad and Tobago, and it was the norm to greet strangers in the street. What would happen? I would like to find out, especially as we approach Christmas which is the period for cheer!
Christmas in Trinidad and Tobago, and all over the world, is a time to be with your loved ones. Some people are not so lucky and do not have that special someone, some children don’t even have a home with loving parents.
I have launched Caribbean Christmas Cheer for two reasons: to bring people together and also to bring some happiness to the less fortunate children in London. I would like to at least try and make a difference – but I need your help.
Buy a Christmas Star!
Christmas is approaching and the nights are getting longer, the days colder. In the spirit of Christmas, I would like to bring people together and raise some money for those less fortunate.
My objective is to sell 1 million Christmas Star pins at £1.50 each in order to raise £200,000 for charity after cost. A range of coloured stars will be available, with each colour representing different meanings. The best part is YOU decide what your meaning is.
When other people see you wearing a Christmas Star, they will know that you are sharing in the Caribbean Christmas Cheer, and may even say hello!
When wearing your pin, you encourage others to share their cheer. Or, you can choose to buy a pin and contribute to the cause without actually wearing it every day. It’s completely up to you when you want to spread the cheer – whether at work, the pub, on the Tube or in the supermarket!
The money I raise single-handedly will be used to bring joy to children this Christmas, and I’m looking for all the support I can get! My aim is to spread the word around London using radio, the internet and selling directly to people on the streets. I want a million Londoners to be wearing the token. It could make the difference to a huge number of people.
The Children’s Charity
I have chosen the NSPCC as the charity to benefit from all our hard work. I want you to be a part of it. I look forward to the day I can present a cheque for £200,000 to the children’s charity. Click here for more details.
Buy a Christmas Star & you could get a £10,000+ holiday in the Caribbean!
As an incentive, if I reach my objective of selling million pins, the lucky millionth recipient will receive £10,000 cash and a trip for 2 to the Caribbean on Valentine’s Day. (If I am unable to achieve this target by this date, I will continue this venture until it is achieved and the 1 Millionth pin incentive will be awarded). There will be also random incentives as we go along for people who purchase pins and as a result brings us closer to the objective and reach these intermittent targets (such as 110,00th pin purchased).
The cost for the pins will is just £1.50 pounds each (includes postage) - less than a pint of beer or bus ticket! Unfortunately when such a small token is purchased, the fixed cost associated in getting this to you is high, if these could have been avoided I would have been be able to contribute even more. As a result need your help to spread the word. Why £1.50? For a breakdown of the cost click here
Spread the word!
Christmas is around the corner and to make all this happen the word needs to spread fast so please tell your friends, family and colleagues about this project.
Enjoy a Caribbean Christmas in London!!
